Davis, Giles (1824-1878)
Historical Note
Born in Union County, Indiana, 7 Nov. 1824. Son of a farmers Elisha and Elizabeth (Shafer) Davis, both of Ohio. Married Louisa Jinks of franklin County, Ind. He came to Coles County, Ill. in 1871 and started keeping a meat market in Charleston. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and the Knights of Honor and a member of the Farmers Club of Charleston Township.
