Semple, Letitia Tyler (1821-1907)
Historical Note
Letitia Tyler, 1821-1907, daughter of US President John Tyler. In 1839, she married James Semple, whom her father appointed a navy purser. The marriage was not a happy one, and she left James after the Civil War. She moved to Baltimore and opened a school, the Eclectic Institute.
