Scope and Contents of the Materials

Personal and professional papers of Dr. Franklin Riley, Southern historian, teacher of history at University of Mississippi and Washington and Lee, and author.  Papers date 1843-1930.  Formerly on deposit at the University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill under the accession number 1533.

Biographical Note

Franklin L. Riley was professor at University of Mississippi and Washington and Lee University. He was born in Hebron, Lawrence County, Miss., graduated from Mississippi College and did his graduate work at Johns Hopkins University. He married Fanny T.
